My Name is Sue Frederick

My name is Sue Frederick.

I have MS. I’m in a wheelchair. I had been walking with a walker but I fell down 2-3 times per week. The wheelchair keeps me from falling down. 😊

About a year ago I decided to be realistic that I wasn’t using my hands or arms and they seemed weak to me.

I had met with physical therapists before so I had an idea of what I needed to do. I gathered a few items:

• Handgrip

• Glass marbles

• Stretching band

• Cuticle oil

• Dumbbell hand weights. I started with 1 lb and now I’ve graduated to a 5 lb.

I had to retire from work and I vowed to enroll myself in a yoga class.

Work let me listen to music on headphones, I really began to miss the music and knew I had to figure out a way to work that in. So I began what I call “my routine”.

I go to my room and close the door.

For about 2 hours I listen to my music and work with all the therapeutic things I’ve gathered.

It has helped me immensely and I do it on a regular basis.

Editor’s note:

Sue is a passionate fan of the band Metallica (her Sthira), and she ingeniously balances that energy with her yoga practice (her Sukha) .

“Sthira can mean to stand, to be firm, stable, compact, strong, steadfast, static, resolute, and even courageous.”

“Sukha can mean happy, good, joyful, delightful, easy, agreeable, gentle, mild, virtuous or quite literally; good place.”  charleyoga.com.au

Sue is the embodiment of these two words!
