Yoga, Disability, & Transformation – Session 2: What To Do About Sympathy
March 10, 2021 @ 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM CST

Living with a disability is a complex social endeavor. One such complexity is dealing with the projection of sympathy, from loved ones, from strangers, and from our culture at large. On one hand, sympathy is dehumanizing. It cuts; it injures; it limits. On the other, a judgment of sympathy is often an attempt to acknowledge, appreciate, and even empower the hardship of living with a disability….except that it accomplishes none of those things. In this workshop, participants gain insights into navigating and transforming the complex projection of sympathy from a culture that is actually afraid of the ‘dis’abled experience. Participants also partake in a yoga practice that aims at maintaining boundary and a sense of one’s own shape in the face of such projections.
No need to register in advance.
Sessions will be recorded made available on The Hub.
