Pose of the Month

Receive and Restore by Mary Pat FitzPatrick

It’s summertime (here in the Northern Hemisphere anyway!) which means it’s the best time to carve out time for fun, rest and relaxation. In our newsletter this month, the Pose of the Month is Receive and Restore. Read on to see what MBS yoga teacher, MaryPat FitzPatrick has to say about this pose…

“Nothing can be forced, receptivity is everything.” — B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Life

Lie down face up with your knees bent supporting each other and your feet flat on the floor (approximately mat width). Once comfortable and resting in this simple yet sublime pose, one will begin to receive several restorative benefits. It will calm the nervous system, relieve tension, and improve alignment. It may take several minutes to “come home,” as Amy [Samson-Burke] sometimes refers to landing in our bodies. Soon, however, from the top of the head to the tips of the toes, the body will come into harmony with itself. The slight internal rotation of the femurs allows sweet space around the sacrum. The slight tuck of the pelvis allows lengthening of the spine. Nothing is forced, the body finds (H)OM on its own…

Prop options: Place a blanket under the head and/or a bolster under knees.
